[#18] Opening up echo chambers via optimal content recommendation
Antoine used a quadratic program to find optimal recommendations - and if implemented, this recommendation scheme will maximize the diversity of content to which users are exposed, while still accounting for their preferences.
Then, we discussed the differences between microscopic and macroscopic research and how to reconcile them. For example, the main topic of a thesis is called “macroscopic research,” while solving specific equations and programming is referred to as “microscopic research.”
Usually, at the beginning of a PhD, we struggle to clearly understand what the final thesis will entail regarding topics, results, and how they will be presented. But the good news is that everything will become clear at some point, and the thesis will be born!
