🔁 Recap: Networks & Physics Workshop 2025

NetPlace organized an in-person workshop on Networks & Physics and a Collabathon on 16th May 2025 at Queen Mary University of London. The event brought together around 25 participants for a dynamic day of talks, collaboration, and creative exploration in network science and physics.

The day kicked off with two inspiring keynote talks:

  • Tim Evans (Imperial College London) opened with “Network Stories: From Ideas to Papers”, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how concepts in network science evolve into impactful research.
  • Silvia Bartolucci (UCL) followed with “Physics on the Edge: Old Tricks for New Nodes”, exploring how classical tools from physics can be adapted to tackle modern network challenges.

In the late morning, participants began pitching their own research ideas—ranging from measures of complexity to applications in ecology—sparking lively discussion and cross-disciplinary exchange.

After lunch, the Collabathon began: groups formed organically around shared interests and spent the afternoon developing their projects. Despite the short time, all teams delivered impressive presentations, outlining original research questions, methodologies, and potential directions for further study.

Each group received valuable feedback from peers and the keynote speakers, making the final session a moment of shared learning and encouragement.

We thank all speakers, contributors, and participants for their enthusiasm, openness, and ideas.
This was more than just a workshop—it was a launchpad for future collaborations.
