[#24] Twisted landscapes: higher-order interactions make basins deeper but smaller.

Yuanzhao showed how polyadic couplings affect the behaviour of complex systems. Referencing Kuramoto oscillators on hypergraphs, he showed higher-order interactions stabilize some states (deepening basins) but reduce the chances of accessing them from random starts (shrinking basins). Check out his slides here.

Shifting to our discussion corner, Yuanzhao addressed the challenges inherent to interdisciplinary scientific research. How does one effectively integrate themselves within interdisciplinary communities? And what’s the trajectory for securing faculty roles in such a dynamic field?

Some key takeaways from our seminar:

  1. Online connections fight isolation
  2. Engage in schools and conferences
  3. Embrace open-mindedness
  4. Explore grants like SFI Omidyar
  5. Interdisciplinary strengths shine when valued; find your appreciative community!
